What We Believe
God
We believe in the One eternal, sovereign, all-knowing, all-powerful, and loving God that exists in three distinct persons who are co-equal in the Trinity—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe God made Himself known through nature (Natural Revelation) and His word (Progressive Revelation).
1 Corinthians 8:6; John 1:14; John 10:30; 1 John 5:7-8; Ephesians 4:4-6; Genesis 1:26; and Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 19:1-4; Romans 1:18-20.
The Bible
We believe in the inspired Word of God. Through Progressive Revelation, God made Himself known to us through Jesus Christ and the Bible. The original texts of the Bible (in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) were without error and perfect. We believe that by reading this book, we discover who God is through the working of the Holy Spirit within us. We believe studying God's Word will teach us more about Jesus and His calling on our lives.
Psalm 19:1-4; Job 12:7-10; John 1:3; Hebrews 1:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Matthew 5:18; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ to be the long-awaited prophet, priest, and king of the Old Testament. We believe He is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity. We believe He was born of the virgin Mary. We believe He took on actual human flesh, with blood and bones, and lived a real life. We believe that we have access to the Father through His life, death, and resurrection. We believe He became the sacrifice, our perfect, spotless lamb that took the world's sins away.
Matthew 1:18; Luke 24:50-51; John 1:1; John 1:14; John 3:17; John 10:30-33; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Colossians 2:9; 1 John 2:2; 1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 10:5-10.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit to be the very Spirit of God, the third person of the Trinity. We believe the Spirit was involved in creation and in the believer's salvation, regeneration, and sanctification. We believe both the Father and the Son sent Him to us. We believe He gives a transformational life (called sanctification) to the believer. We believe He is able to help the believer to understand the Bible. We believe He sets us apart for the very work of God to further His kingdom. We believe the Spirit intercedes on our behalf before the Father, especially in our times of distress.
Matthew 10:20; John 14:16-17; John 15:26; John 16:7-8; Acts 2; Acts 10:44-48; Romans 8:14; Romans 8:16; Romans 8:26-27; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13.
Humanity
We believe God created humanity, Adam and Eve, to be His royal priests and work in His first temple in Eden. We believe that God's original plan for humanity was to be co-rulers with Him in expanding His kingdom to cover the whole world. However, Adam and Eve desired to rule independently. They listened to Satan, the snake in the garden, and took the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We believe that all of humanity has become tainted with sin due to their actions.
Genesis 1:26-31; Genesis 1:26-31, 3:6, 3:17-19; Psalm 8:4-5, 51:5; Matthew 5:16; John 3:16-21; Romans 3:10, 5:12; Acts 17:27-28
Salvation
We believe that in humanity's fall, when Adam and Eve took the fruit from the tree, God planned to bridge the divide between Himself and His creation. God declared that there would be One who would come from the line of Eve who would stomp on the head of the serpent. In the process, He will be struck by the serpent. God called Abraham to make a family that He would use to bring salvation into the world. He would make a covenant with this family, Israel, to be His people. It would be from these people that salvation would come. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, was born, lived the life we could not (a perfect one without sin), and died the death we deserved. At that moment of His death, He took our sins upon Himself. We have His righteousness due to His resurrection. This justified us before the Father, making us right before Him and able to restore our broken relationship with the Father.
Genesis 3:15; Genesis 12:1-3; Genesis 15:17-21; Exodus 19; Isaiah 53; Jeremiah 31:31-34; Ezekiel 11:19; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:21-26.
Baptism
We believe baptism is an outward sign of the inward change made upon our acceptance of Christ as our Lord and Savior. This is a decision that each person makes on their own, known as the Believer's Baptism, to follow Christ as their Lord and Savior. We believe this is the basis for membership in the church. We believe this is also how God has brought each believer to answer His calling on their lives—known as the priesthood of all believers.
Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27; Ephesians 4:5; Colossians 2:12.
The Church
We believe the Church to be the one, holy, universal, and apostolic Church of Christ. We believe all believers who have gone before us and are still working in His kingdom belong to the Church. We believe that God intended to make each believer a personal temple of God that becomes the Church when brought together in whatever building. We believe that the Church is also, at the same time, the bride of Christ. We believe that one day, He will return for His bride, and on that day, we will enjoy the eternal presence of our King and dine at the ultimate communion table (known as the Messiah's Banquet).
Matthew 16:16-18, 28:19-20; Matthew 18:20; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 12:4-8; Ephesians 2:14-22, 4:10-13, 5:29; Colossians 1:18.
Communion/Lord’s Supper
We believe that Communion, also known as the Lord's Supper, symbolizes the body and blood of Christ to the believer. We believe Communion is to be taken every Sunday. It reminds us of the action Jesus took to bring us salvation. We believe that the table is to be open to all, just as Jesus dined with anyone, and available to those who want and desire to partake in it.
Exodus 12:21-28; Exodus 23:15; Matthew 26:26-28; John 6; Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, 28.
Christ's Second Coming
We believe in the physical return of Jesus Christ at the end of all time. We believe that He is currently working out His purposes, will, and salvation through the Church here on earth. We believe that when He returns, which no one knows the time or date, He will raise the righteous in Christ with Him and dispense justice on the wicked. We believe that a new Heaven and Earth will be established through His return, and we will all live with Him in the New Jerusalem forever. We believe at this time, there will no longer be any death, decay, destruction, evil, sickness, sin, suffering, or wickedness. We believe that God will make all things right as He always planned.
